2nd 60 – Day 60 – Its all part of the Process and Growth

Standard

120 Days into re-CLAIMING my life and I feel great.

Breakfast of Champions! Romaine and banana peppers from the garden, raw sunflower & pumpkin seeds, tomatoes, black olives, feta cheese - little drizzle of olive oil& red wine vinegar - what a great way to start the day!

Overall I am making much better choices with regard to eating and exercise. I opt for a piece of fruit over many other snacks. Sandwiches, pasta and desserts are far & few between. I don’t actually avoid them, but they do not have the sway over my hunger that they once did. If I do have a pasta dish, I measure the serving amount and load up on veggies or salad.

I went back and read my very first post and thinking about eating that meatball sub is just so foreign to me now.

Yesterday, Shelby & I walked the 5-mile Warrior Drive 5 race course. Now, I was at just a normal walking pace, not “brisk” and  I did stop a few times for Shelby to sniff and leave her calling card, but it took almost 2-hours!

I looked at the results from last year and the best woman (23 yrs old) did 34:15. Carol Jean’s (64 yrs old) time was 46:01.

So now I know what I’m shooting for and I’ve got 4 months to prepare.

2nd 60 – Day 57 – Back in the Saddle Again!

Standard

Oh, I’ve really done it this time…  I’m just finishing my C25K program and last night at a business function I ran into a friend of mine who is an extraordinary athlete. Carol Jean has won many running, cycling and triathlon matches, including the 4,000plus mile trek from the Pacific Ocean in Ca to the Atlantic Ocean in New Hampshire. She is truly an inspiration. Well, last night she “adopted” me  and made me promise compete with her,  and with her as my coach, in a 5-mile race called the Warrior Drive 5.

First,  I must confess that while I have completed the C25k and can now “run” for 30 minutes – I do not believe I am going the actual distance of 5k or 3.1 miles. I am not sure you can really call what I do running. I describe it as a jog-ish movement that is somewhat faster than a walk, well my walk anyway.

And I’ve been doing this program exclusively at our lovely Harmon Field on flat, well maintained walking paths – no cars, imperfections in the asphalt or mountainous inclines.

The Warrior Drive 5 is a race where elite athletes including Olympians have competed. This race takes place on St Patrick’s Day 2012 so I’ve got to get busy because Carol Jean is expecting me to place in the top 3  in my age division (srsly? silly woman!)

Its raining today – but Shelby and I are going to walk the course today and every other day for the rest of the week, then I’m getting busy and going to start running, using my C25k podcasts to get my pace going uphill!

How do I get myself into these things?

2nd 60 – Day 52 Ooops

Standard

Well I have to tell ya, I fell a off the wagon. Not too far, but it isn’t pretty.

Once again, as soon as I was out of my routine, I began compromising many of my good habits, mostly exercise.

I started a new job (yea!!!) so that interfered with getting my morning exercise and run in, but I switched it to afternoon, which wasn’t terrible because it is starting to get down right chilly in the mornings!

I treated myself to a fitness trainer and he was against just about everything I was doing, and he was going to email me a new regime, but its been almost a month & I haven’t yet gotten that from him. Needless to say, I conveniently dropped my consistency ’cause of waiting…

I had to go out of town for my dad’s 85th birthday (woo-hoo, Dad, you rock!) and while I made way better food choices than I used to – I still indulged more than I would have if I were home.

So there you have it – all my excuses. So….

Fresh from the garden: last two pears off the tree, colorful peppers, shitake & blue Dolphin Oyster mushrooms, purple-topped turnips & greens, butter crunch and roamine lettuces and the big daddy of greens - kale!

It’s time to get back on the wagon. I’ve emailed the trainer and hope to hear from him by weeks’ end. If not, I’ll just go back to my old routine and also going back to just juicing until Thanksgiving.

How’s this for a start? The garden is doing great and a lot is now ready to start harvesting.  Herb is making a mushroom linguine with the rest of the Blue Dolphin mushrooms for dinner tonight. Its the same recipe as clams linguine, but with oysters instead of clams.

Then tomorrow I’ll be juicing all this in the morning! (minus the mushrooms, they went into a veggie soup I had for lunch!)
